How to start a website - part 1

Whether you goal is make millions of dollars by selling items on your website, or creating a website to use for personal hobbies, there are a few key things to remember when starting out.

1. Purchase your own domain name. Instead of letting your website developer package that into your deal, you should take the time to purchase your own domain name. It's a very easy process, and can save you tons of headache later if for some reason you and your developer choose to split ways whether it be an amicable split, or your splitting on bad terms. If your developer purchases your domain name, you are at their mercy when it comes to forwarding your domain name to your new provider. If their is a remaning balance on your account, good luck getting them to release anything to you until your debt is paid. By purchasing your own domain, you control where your website is hosted (discussed in part two), and avoid potential high jacking of your domain name.

2. Use Network Solutions to register your domain names. Yes, their more expensive. It can be very entising to go through Godaddy.com or another cheaper means, but for the same reason you want to register your own domain, you want to use Network Solutions to register your domain. You want your domain to be yours. Godaddy and others buy their domains in bulk from Network Solutions, and then RENT you the domain name. Network Solutions is the only company that you can get your domain from, and keep it forever.
